“The Color Purple” Performance Raises Funds And Awareness for Phoenix House

More than 100 board members and friends of Phoenix House gathered at the Ahmanson Theatre earlier this year for a performance of Oprah Winfrey’s “The Color Purple.” The play’s theme tied-in well with the important work of Phoenix House—helping individuals tap into their inner strengths to overcome hardship, recognize how family and friends can help them work through tough times, and understand that each person has the ability to create his or her own life.

Prior to the performance, guests gathered in one of the private theatre rehearsal halls for a brunch reception where two Phoenix House residents shared their stories. They spoke about their lives leading up to Phoenix House, the lessons they learned through treatment and their hopes for the future, which included college and further exploration of the culinary arts. The event raised $40,000 for Phoenix House programs throughout Southern California.
