IMPACT - Drug Prevention Services for High Schools in New York City

Prevention Services for Schools

Secondary schools in the New York metropolitan area can rightfully boast about providing a wonderful education for some of the brightest students in the country. But even the most gifted students can find it difficult to meet the rigorous academic, physical, and social challenges they face, especially growing up in New York City.

The IMPACT Program at Phoenix House has been serving New York City for more than 25 years, helping teens whose experience with alcohol and other drugs has negatively affected their school work and relationships with family and friends. Our trained clinical IMPACT staff can help your school by providing assessment and intervention services to those students showing signs of a struggle with alcohol or drugs.

Our drug abuse prevention specialists are also available to visit your school to give lectures or conduct seminars with students, staff, counselors and parents about drug and alcohol abuse. Our cutting-edge drug educational materials, used in some 900 high schools across the country, are based on the most current scientific research about drug abuse prevention.

IMPACT subjects include:

  • Basic information on alcohol and drugs, the latest research, drug trends, signs and symptoms of use/abuse, and assessment, referral and treatment options
  • Strategies for creating effective education and prevention program for students and their parents
  • The transition to college – preparing students for the non-academic challenges
  • IMPACT workshops for parents of college-bound teens
  • Discussion and answer seminars for parents focusing on life skills development for their children, stress management, adolescent development, etc.

IMPACT can also assist you in writing school-wide alcohol and drug policies.

Schools that have utilized Phoenix House prevention services include:

  • The Birch Wathen Lenox School
  • The Buckley School
  • Friends Seminary
  • The Hewitt School
  • Marymount School
