COAF Children of alcoholics and drug abusers need help making sense of addiction and the reasons their families have been affected. They need assistance in understanding their parent’s behavior, which may include abuse and neglect.

They need support as they cope with broken promises, confusion, anger, loss and bereavement. And they need special help understanding their own increased risk for drug and alcohol abuse.

In the face of these realities, our mantra remains the same: children of alcoholics and drug abusers are at risk. But with help and support, they can be taught to cope with their parent’s problems, and break the intergenerational cycle of this disease.
