Drug Treatment Program Evaluations
Briefly described below are our major current, planned, and recently completed program evaluations.
Community Reintegration Program, San Diego Aftercare Program - The evaluation component of an Adolescent Residential Treatment grant from the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) to Phoenix House San Diego, it examines the content of the aftercare program and assesses program effectiveness in reducing drug use and criminal behavior for clients who have completed residential treatment.
Hampden County Juvenile Drug Court – An evaluation of the Hampden County (Holyoke and Springfield, Massachusetts) Juvenile Drug Court program for which Phoenix Houses of New England provides case management and substance abuse treatment services. The evaluation will assess the fidelity with which the program model was implemented and track services received by participants and their family members. The outcome component of the evaluation will measure participant and family outcomes related to the key aims of the program.
Youth Futures Network at the Harlem Community Justice Center – A process and outcomes evaluation of the Youth Futures Network, an early intervention program using cognitive-behavioral treatment techniques and family intervention, funded through the Strengthening Communities for Youth (SCY) grant by CSAT. A primary objective of the study is assessing program success in identifying, assessing, engaging, and retaining adolescents who are abusing drugs or at risk for abusing drugs.
Intensive Continuing Aftercare Program for Adolescents in Residential Treatment, Shrub Oak, New York – A program evaluation of the Intensive Continuing Aftercare program at Shrub Oak, NY, funded by a CSAT Treatment Adolescent Residential Treatment grant, examines the content of the aftercare program for adolescents leaving the Phoenix Academy of Westchester and assesses the effectiveness of the program in reducing drug use and criminal behavior during the critical post-treatment period.
Treatment Expansion for Medically Indigent Non-adjudicated Youth, Dallas — An evaluation of the CSAT Targeted Capacity Expansion Grant to Phoenix Houses of Texas examines the success of treatment for non-adjudicated youth in a residential therapeutic community. The project also measures the success of community liaison in locating and linking community resources with the aftercare needs of the clients. Finally, the study appraises the need for such services within the greater Dallas metropolitan area.
Toward No Drugs: Ecstasy Prevention Program – An evaluation of a project, funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). The program will serve some 700 young people by bringing the “Towards No Drug Abuse” model program to area high schools and community colleges. It will serve some 300 professionals through education forums and in-service presentations. And, through the Coalition outreach function, it will serve another 1,000 members of the community.
Right Mothering - The research focus of the Right Mothering project, supported by a grant from the March of Dimes, is designed to assess the impact of prenatal health education, smoking cessation, and information/referral services on pregnant and post-partum women who use alcohol and smoke.
