Seafood Shop Phoenix House Polar Bear Splashdown

Hundreds turned out to witness the East Hampton Seafood Shop "Polar Bears" as they dipped into the icy water of the Atlantic on New Year's Day for a good cause.  Mr. Colin Mather, owner of the Seafood Shop in Wainscott, donated all proceeds from the event to Phoenix Academy of Long Island.  His restaurant provided hot food and beverages for the "Polar Bears" at a celebratory fundraising gathering for Phoenix House at the home of a friend after the swim.

“Margaret Dunn, sister of Elizabeth White, Program Director of East Hampton Outpatient, throws up her arms in a show of triumph.”
“Undaunted by the chilly surf and ominous skies, three young “Polar Bears” dash into the Atlantic.”

“The pounding of drums could be heard, providing a celebratory atmosphere as the “Polar Bears” arrived at the shore after their group run from Mr. Mather’s Seafood Shop.”
“The “Polar Bears” seem impervious to the cold, as they soak up the spirit.”

“A cheering crowd greets the “Polar Bears” as they arrive at beach.”

“The Polar Bears splash about like kids on a hot summer's day.”

“Colin Mather, event organizer and owner of the Seafood Shop, enjoys the New Year’s celebration with his buddy.”
